La dégustation, une expérience sensorielle

Tasting: A Sensory Experience

Rum tasting is a process that requires attention and appreciation. Here are the steps to follow to better prepare yourself to TASTE:

Visual Observation: Before tasting the rum, observe its color, brilliance, and texture. Swirl the glass slightly to see how the light reflects through the liquid. Note the hue and density of the rum.

Smelling the Rum: Gently bring your nose to the glass and inhale the aromas. Note the olfactory nuances such as fruits, spices, wood, or floral notes. If you do this with a JBEY rum, pay attention to the different layers of aromas that can transport you to the clouds of Faja d’Agua.

Let's get to the heart of the matter, The Tasting:

  • Take a small sip of rum and let it circulate in your mouth.
  • Pay attention to the texture of the rum on your tongue. Is it smooth, dry, creamy, or rather astringent?
  • Then, breathe lightly through your mouth to allow the aromas to release further.
  • Note the different flavors that manifest, from tropical fruit notes to spices, woody notes, and caramel.
  • Also observe the length of the finish, i.e., how long the flavors remain after swallowing.

In short, once you have taken the time to taste the rum, reflect on your impressions. Note what you liked and what you liked less. Try to determine what makes this rum unique.

It is important to remember that rum tasting should be done in moderation. Drink water between tastings to cleanse your palate and avoid any feeling of fatigue.
